Cross Registration - FAQ

Q1: Do I have to apply to register into another BTI school?
A1: No. If you are enrolled into any BTI School and wish to cross-register into another school, you do not need to apply to cross register. However, you will be required to fill out one petition form, both with your home school, and with the host school.

Q2: Do I pay any fee?
A2: No. You will not be required to pay any fee.

Q3: Do I have to be a full-time student?
A3: No. You are not required to be a full-time, or a degree-seeking student.

Q4: When I cross-register, do I have to go in person?
A4: Yes. You will have to go in person to the hosting school. This will also familiarize you with the travel time and the environment before you start your class.

Q5: Do I have to aquire my dean's, or academic advisor's approval?
A5: Yes. Depending on your program, you will need to consult with your advisor or dean, to ensure that the BTI course you wish to take fits your plans.

Q6: Do I need to seek the approval of the professor teaching the course?
A6: Maybe. Usually, if professors have limited enrollment, this will be specified in the course description. In this case, you will need to contact the professor. If you cannot locate the contact information of the professor, please feel free to contact your registrar, or see the BTI faculty directory here

Q7: Do I have parking privileges at the host school?
A7: Parking privileges are not transferable from one school to another. If you need parking privileges at the host school, please contact the Student Services office of the host school.

Q8: Can I cross-register for winter courses?
A8: Yes. Please note that not all the schools offer winter courses. In this case, a winter course is usually transfered as a Spring semester course.

Q9: Can I cross-register for summer courses?
A9: The BTI does not offer cross-registration privileges for summer courses. (Although summer courses may appear in the BTI Course Catalogue, this is done for advertising purpose.)

Q10: Do I pay for summer courses?
A10: Yes. If you are a BTI student and wish to take a summer course at another BTI school you will have to pay the full tuition at the host school.

Q11: What is the admission procedure for summer courses within the BTI?
A11: The admission procedure for summer courses may be different for each school. In general, you will be required to apply to the host school as a special student. Therefore, to ensure that you are taking the correct steps, please contact the registrar from your school as well as the registrar of the hosting school.

Q12: Can I transfer summer course credits?
A12: Yes. If you wish to transfer credits for summer courses, you will need to request a transcript.

Q13: How are the credits calculated?
A13: In order to determine the parity for credit transfer, please see the Course Credit Conversion Chart available here.

Q14: Can I cross-register through the BTI into the wider university?
A14: You can cross-register only for courses listed into the BTI Course Catalogue. For example, a student from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary may take a course at Harvard Kennedy School of Government only if that course is cross-listed into Harvard Divinity School as a course open to the BTI students -- and thus listed into the BTI Course Catalogue.

Q15: Can I sit in a class during the "shopping" period?
A15: Yes. You are allowed to sit in a class before the Add/Drop Period.
