Course
Credit Equivalencies
Andover
Newton follows a semester system. Unless otherwise noted,
all courses are equal to three semester hours of credit. BTI students
who need other than the credits stated shall contract with the
professor at the first meeting of the class. BTI students may
register, but not cross-register, for EL (E-Learning) classes.
Boston
College courses all carry three hours per semester, unless
otherwise specified.
Boston
University School of Theology designates all of its degree
requirements as requiring a specific number of semester course
requirements or semester credit requirements. A full semester
course usually has three or four contact hours per week per semester.
A half semester course has one and a half or two contact hours
per week.
Episcopal
Divinity School is on a semester course system. A course is
normally of one semester duration with three hours of classes
weekly throughout the semester, except for seminars which normally
meet two hours weekly. The courses are not given numerical credit
equivalency by the school itself. A mini-course is equivalent
to one-half of a semester course.
Gordon-Conwell
Theological Seminary follows a semester system. Unless otherwise
noted, all courses are equal to three semester hours of credit.
To register for Semlink (distance education) classes, BTI students
should contact the GCTS Registration Office. Semlink classes are
available for registration, but not cross-registration.
Harvard
Divinity School courses are designated as half courses, full
courses, or half courses throughout the year. A half course meets
during one semester and is equivalent to four units; a full course
normally meets during both semesters and is equal to eight units;
a half course throughout the year is a four unit course which
meets the duration of both semesters. A unit is equivalent to
one semester hour. Class hours may vary, depending on whether
the class is a seminar or lecture class.
Holy
Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology is on a semester course
system. All courses offered at Holy Cross carry three credit hours
per semester unless otherwise specified. A semester course normally
meets two or three times a week. Some elective seminars meet once
per week.
St.
John’s Seminary follows a semester course system. A semester
course normally meets three times per week for fifty minutes per
period or twice per week for 75 minutes per period. Elective seminars
meet once a week and entail additional work to effect equivalence
with the semester course. Most semester courses and all seminars
are designated as three credit courses.
Weston
Jesuit School of Theology follows a semester course system.
All regular academic courses for Weston degrees receive three
credits. A lecture course normally meets for three contact hours
weekly; seminars normally meet once a week for two hours, and
require additional work to effect equivalence with lecture courses.

Cross-Registration
Information
Admissions
and financial aid are handled separately by each of the member
schools. Course credits and degrees are awarded by the member
schools, not by the BTI. All admissions and course registration
matters are handled by the school of the student’s primary registration.
All courses listed in this catalogue must be applied for via the
school of primary registration.
The
vast majority of the courses listed in this catalogue are open
to all of the participating schools, subject to enrollment limitations
or prerequisites.
Academic
credits for work taken at other BTI schools will be credited to
the student by the home school registrar.
How

Each

The
course numbers in this catalogue correspond to the numbers in
the catalogue of the host schools: e.g., BC TH 470 is taught at
Boston College under catalogue listing, TH 470.
All
courses are listed according to the course divisions identified
in the table of contents. Users should examine all catalogue course
divisions related to a specific area of interest in order to obtain
a comprehensive view of course listings in that area.
When
a course is offered jointly by two or more schools, the course
is ordinarily listed under the school where classes will be located.
Other numbers for this course are listed on the same line, e.g.,
EDS NT 1010; WJST NT 101.
Course
meeting times are listed alongside the meeting day(s).* Classes
that list only a start time are often 50-60 minutes long. Regular
courses do not require the instructor’s permission for cross-registration.
Restricted courses require the permission of the instructor. Registration
priority is given to the students of the school which offers the
course. The student’s Home School determines eligibility
for cross-registration.
*
Some
courses require a small group discussion hour. For HDS, these
courses will be designated by "&hr" following the course time
("&hr" means "and hour to be arranged"). Other schools will
announce discussion hours at the first class meeting.
