Youth and Young Adult Ministry Studies

This certificate is not receiving new applicants as of academic year 2009-2010. It is being redeveloped and reconceived in relation to the work of the BTI schools. Current applicants are allowed to complete their programs.

The Purpose: The Certificate program signals an innovative response to a chorus of voices in the church, academy, and wider community calling for better training for those who minister to and alongside rising generations in the Church and civil society.

The Nature of the Certificate: This certificate is awarded by the BTI in recognition of courses taken in the area of Youth and Young Adult Ministry Studies through the schools of the Institute. The award is determined by the Faculty Advisory Committee composed of faculty who represent each of the BTI schools. Two Ways to Earn the Certificate: 1) Supplement an existing program for degree candidates in the BTI schools. 2) Register for continuing education programs in the BTI schools.

How to Do It: The Certificate is open to degree candidates at BTI schools, ministers in the vicinity, or persons involved in continuing or lay education programs. The newly formed BTI Religious Education Studies Advisory Committee (RESAC) oversees the YYAMS Certificate. Persons pursuing this certificate will seek out a faculty advisor from within her or his school, typically but not necessarily a member of RESAC.

How to Apply: Application for the Certificate may be made by any person in a bona fide program of a BTI member school (e.g., either matriculated student or persons in continuing education in the BTI schools as defined in the course catalogue). Such requests are to be made no later than the end of the fall term of the year in which the student expects to graduate from his or her respective BTI institution. Persons seeking the Certificate are advised to contact the RESAC Certificate representative on their faculty as soon as they are able in their program of study. Alternately, students are welcome to contact the BTI Central Office.

Deadlines: Applicant should be in consultation with his/her advisor and work normally completed for a December graduation by November 1st. For a May/June graduation, work must normally be completed by March 15th.
